Big Dance Australia 2016 update

Big Dance is a biennial festival of people dancing led by the Mayor of London in partnership with People Dancing and the Big Dance Hubs, a network of leading dance organisations across the UK.

Big Dance Week ran from 2 to 10 July 2016 and Ausdance Queensland and Tracks Dance in Darwin hosted Big Dance events.

Michelle Silby, Director of Ausdance NSW and Executive Director Ausdance Victoria, said

I firmly believe dance is for everyone and everyone can dance! Big Dance UK is a wonderful opportunity to participate in dance for free. We in Australia have really enjoyed the opportunity to join in, and be part of the global dance community. Working with choreography by Akram Khan has been a dream, inspiring young and old alike all over the country. We will aim to tie Big Dance in with the 2018 Commonwealth Games and Commonwealth Youth/Arts Festival.

Big Dance Australia started in 2014 in Sydney and regional NSW, led by Ausdance NSW, Sydney Dance Company and Sydney Opera House. 2016 see’s two major Big Dance events with Ausdance NSW working with inter-state partners, in Darwin, Northern Territory, with Tracks Dance Company 01 July and in Brisbane, Queensland working with Ausdance QLD on 10 July. We are also encouraging people to use the choreography to inspire their own Big Dance.”

The Big Dance Film will be featured at this year's Australian Dance Awards in September!
