2016 Keir Choreographic Award finalists announced

Congratulations to the eight commissioned artists Sarah Aiken, James Batchelor, Chloe Chignell, Ghenoa Gela, Martin Hansen, Alice Heyward, Rebecca Jensen and Paea Leach.

The Award increases the profile of and cultivates new audiences for contemporary dance within Australia by commissioning and presenting new choreographic works in a competitive context.

Ausdance Queensland seeks Executive Director

During this 12-month contract, the executive director at Ausdance Queensland will manage Ausdance Queensland’s operations, programs and services in line with the Strategic Plan approved by the Ausdance Qld Management Committee. A key focus of the role in 2016 is the business renewal of the organisation to enhance Ausdance Queensland’s impact.

This role will suit someone with excellent written and verbal communication skills and a strong knowledge of the Queensland dance sector. Previous experience in a management role in the arts or not-for-profit sector is desirable. Key duties include the management of the organisation, sector leadership, development of the organisation’s next triennial funding application and implementation of the organisation’s Business Plan.

Key information

  • Salary: The salary is negotiable with a range $58,000 – $68,000 p.a. (F.T.E) plus superannuation of 9.5%.
  • Hours: The Executive Director role may be full-time or a three or four-day-per-week role with salary pro-rata-ed. This is negotiable with the successful candidate.
  • Location: Ausdance Queensland office, Level 4, 420 Brunswick Street, Fortitude Valley

Marketing and Administration

You will have the overall responsibility for the look, brand and feel of Ausdance NSW. You will have major input into the new 2016–2018 marketing and communication plan. You will lead the promotion of the organisation's projects and events and undertake general administration tasks. You will lead membership drives and facilitate the promotion of our members events and projects.

Manager Ausdance NSW (Organisations & Projects)

Oversee the operational management of the organisation and its projects, on a day-to-day basis. Work closely with the Director to implement the 2016–2018 program of activities, strategic plan and KPI’s. Be a positive driver of the organisation to enable the dance sector to thrive.

World Dance Alliance Asia Pacific 2016 conference: call for performances, choreolab and symposium

In 2016, the Korean chapter of World Dance Alliance Asia Pacific (WDAAP) will host the WDAAP Annual General Meeting and surrounding activities as the event Dance routes—danced roots: connecting the local and the global. It will include showcase performances, an international choreolab and a symposium.

Applications are now open for participation in the following events:

  • Showcase Performances
  • International Choreolab
  • Symposium—call for proposals

The Showcase provides a concert platform for professional choreographers and performers, and pre-professional artists training in dance academies. The performances will take place in the theaters located in the ShangShin Univeristy or Arko Theater and will be open to registered participants of the WDAAP event and the general public.

The International Choreolab is designed for four emerging and mid-career choreographers to work intensively for almost one week under the mentorship of one Korean established dance artist and one internationally known choreographers (to be announced) resulting in a public showing of works in progress. You can apply to participate in the Choreolab as a choreographer or as a dancer.

The Symposium theme focuses on the idea of global and local connectivity through dance, looking at roots as well as routes that dance and dancers negotiate in different cultures of the contemporary world. Presentation formats include scholarly, performative and Pecha Kucha style presentations.
